There is a dip in carbon emissions In India, Are Electric Vehicles the main reason?

As per the report published by CPCB India, it is seen that in the past couple of years, the carbon emissions caused by transport have decreased a lot and researchers are phrasing it as “a win by the Electric Vehicle industry”. The recent dip in carbon emissions is observed after a boom in the EV market along with a better transportation system. Also, the role of Electric vehicles in protecting the environment is huge as they are both more economical and ecological than their counterparts available in the market. So the demand for EVs is increasing over time.

The rapid increase in the pollution caused by humans, and air pollution due to transportation plays a major role in it. 12% of the total air pollution in 2024 is contributed by transportation all alone, which was 14% in 2020, although the number decreased in percentage it hasn’t changed a lot. The major role in this decrease is brought by Electric vehicles but there is a way lot to go. So one should prefer EVs over conventional vehicles.

NEED OF EVs

EVs are different and better than conventional petrol or diesel vehicles but, the need that why people should prefer EVs over conventional petrol vehicles lies within the positive changes it bring to the environment. The positive changes are as follows:-

  • They are ecological as they do not produce any smoke or other kind of residue
  • They work on electricity the clean source of energy
  • Loss of energy while charging and discharging is very low
  • Uses Li-ion batteries which do not contaminate the environment and are very efficient and economical
  • They help in the reduction of carbon emissions or footprint
  • Requires low maintenance
  • They also do not produce any kind of noise pollution
  • They are lightweight, which has huge advantages like less power is needed to attain better acceleration, more storage capacity can be made in the vehicle, and less wear and tear to the road.

How EVs are better than conventional petrol vehicles

The advantages of EVs over conventional petrol vehicles are many they do not produce any kind of air pollution while driving as compared to petrol vehicles which produce lots of kind of air pollutants like carbon dioxide(CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), photochemical oxidants, air toxics, namely benzene (C6H6), aldehydes, 1,3 butadiene (C4H6), lead (Pb), particulate matter (PM), hydrocarbon (HC), oxides of sulphur (SO2) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), also there is very less maintenance is required in case of EVs, they are lightweight then petrol vehicles that help them in providing better aerodynamics. Power consumption for the same amount of acceleration is less due. Also, EVs are quieter which is a huge advantage while driving as we can easily focus and interpret on horns which can lead to a decrease in the number of accidents caused just by drivers unable to hear the horn of the vehicle behind them, EVs are economically better than conventional petrol vehicles, also it does not depend on fossils fuel which is in a fixed amount and extraction of which causes a huge impact on the environment.

Role of ESG in the reduction of carbon emission

ESG stands for environmental, social and governance. As the name suggests it is the set of standards used to measure an organization’s impact on the three critical areas. As in the name, one of the standards it measures is environment which consists of how an organization deals with greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, climate change, waste management, pollution, etc. Many EV companies are providing a platform to other companies to achieve ESG norms as EVs help them reduce a large chunk of every point that affects ESG standards.

Role of Zypp in the reduction of carbon emission

Zypp is helping other businesses which depend on transportation to carry out their work to reduce carbon emissions and achieve ESG norms. They use 2W or 3W scooters that cause no air pollution while driving. Also, they are working on the #zero carbon mission, they are currently in partnership with big brands like Zepto, Zomato, Swiggy, Amazon, BlueDart, BigBasket, Blinkit and many more.
